Franciscan Sisters of St. Anna Schools Celebrate Education Day

By Anne Owino, FSSA

An association of the Franciscan Sisters of St. Anna’s (FSSA) primary schools had their annual education day celebrated at St. Angela Merici Academy, Webuye.

The association that has been dubbed as NYANYALWARA WEMA is an abbreviation of the primary schools managed by the FSSA congregation which comprise of Nyangoma, Nyabondo Nyamonye, Aluor, Lwak, Rapogi, Webuye and Madiany.

Sr. Mary Angeline the chairperson of the association explained that NYANYALWARA WEMA has been in existence for over ten years. The involved schools have found the association quite helpful since they have a joint exam where they compete and the best school is awarded.  This has enabled pupils and teachers to be on toes academically and focus on progress of their schools.

According to Ms. Fridah Masaba the head-teacher of St. Angela, Webuye, the alliance of these schools has exposed the pupils and has tremendously increased their performance.

“The idea to form an association for our schools is quite advantageous. The pupils get to travel to other schools and they explore the environment outside their learning institution,” Ms. Masaba expressed adding, “The joint exam that we normally do has led to exchange of ideas among learners. When they converge they learn more about the tradition and the mission of our schools. This has led to good academic performance among the learners. Besides, the pupils also get to learn the hidden abilities from other pupils when they meet especially on the part of entertainment.”

On his part, Mr. Zachary Ouma one of the committee members pointed out that unity among teachers is strength to the schools. “When teachers meet together, great things happen. Our coming together has advanced the learning system in our schools like French and Computer classes have been introduction in St Angela Webuye after borrowing ideas from others,” Mr. Ouma Said. He further narrated, “Pupils have also learnt to put more efforts in their studies since everybody is competing to get the first position so as to be award. They normally look forward to achieving the best.”
