Staff Empowerment: Work Ethic and Public Relations

St. Angela Merici academy, Webuye managed by the Franciscan Sisters of St. Anna (FSSA) under the administration of Sr. Beatrice Merceline, had a one day conference for its teaching staff under the theme “Work ethic and public relations.” The meeting was steered by Sr. Consolata Aloo, FSSA on June 9, 2019 within the school compound.
The conference which was aimed to help the teachers see their lives and work in a new perspective, respond positively towards their profession and to connect back to their purpose as a human being, a team and a people, was successfully attended by all the teaching staffs.
Centering on how employees should demonstrate their worth on the job, Sr. Consolata focused on attitude and hard work. She emphasized that a good work ethic is an attitude that combines hard work, good performance, impact creation and dependable results. Moreover, work ethic requires the ability to make the right decision even under strenuous circumstances. She also reminded the teaching staffs that some ethical values that leads to success include; honesty, trust and respect, integrity, being responsible and having leadership qualities.
During the discussion, the nun who is also a member of the board of management in the school, enlightened the staffs to differentiate their private life from public life to help them portray good relationship at work. She encouraged them to avoid discussion of personal problems at work and to keep off at all cost attending to personal phone calls. These she said, helps the employees develop the attitude of concentrating on their work which results to increased production.
On her part, the administrator of the school Sr. Beatrice Merceline, appreciated the speaker of the day promising that after the powerful motivation, the staffs will have a change of attitude towards work and they hope for increased production. Ms. Fridah Masaba the head-teacher emphasized further that having refresher talk is a source of encouragement to employees and is a practice that should be continuous.
The staffs who were keen on the topic for the day, left the conference rejuvenated and ready to implement the new strategies for improved output in their ministry.
