A Soul that Yearns to Understand the Meaning of Human Rights specifically “Right to Life”

Sr. Miriam Jacinta Jagogo, FSSA

Life is precious for whatever the creature particularly human beings whose role in life is to make the world as habitable as possible for themselves and for other creatures.

Man (not excluding women), has tried and is relentlessly trying through all sorts of research and inventions to keep alive. Man has come up with medicines, food supplements to ensure protection by creating institutions like armed forces, air forces and the police to ensure security for the lives of individuals.

Every Constitution of practically all countries has a chapter on life protection. Violation of which may lead to life imprisonment, application of sanctions or even death penalty. The violation may be in form of; careless public utterance (hate speech), enslavement, murder of persons in a deliberate move, negligence of duties which may culminate in death.

Overall, man has been pausing as a neighbor to each other locally and globally, teaming together to find solutions to common problems that threaten human life and the environment.

Consequently, the formulation of “Human Rights” was envisioned as a possible way to enable man counteract common problems that would eventually destroy human race and their environs.

Protecting lives of human persons appears to be the paramount concern of every nation and continent. This has further resulted in the establishment of local and international courts where leaders who violate human right particularly right to life are tried and even evicted.

From observation, the whole world is keen on ensuring that “Human Rights” are not violated either by individuals or government. Excellent! This is to ascertain “respect for life.”

As one yearning to understand this, my greatest concern is to be enlightened on the universality of the “Right to Life” which is one of the most important points in human rights.

Many individuals and leaders have ended up in either local or international courts for destroying human lives en masse.  Some have even been jailed for hate speech.

Things are happening and we neither close our ears from hearing nor close our eyes from watching what is going on local and globally.

The global talk of depopulating the world without violating the right to life of some persons is what baffles me. This completely contradicts all the concerted efforts that same man has put in place to guard against perceived enemy to human life. Every person even without documented human rights has a right to live.

Depopulation talk is comparable to hate speech which in themselves may appear harmless but very destructive once implemented. No matter how one looks at it, depopulating the world would involve mass destruction of human lives, that precious gift which Human Rights declares to protect.

Depopulation in ordinary terms means eliminating to reduce what is excess. In this situation there is a thought that the earth is congested, therefore some people have no right to life. These thoughts are against “humanity” and are punishable.

Why is the talk on depopulating the world being glorified yet it is killing of the highest order? A violation of human right?

Life is precious and is loved by everyone, and every race on planet young and old alike. Every life has a purpose thus deserves honest protection.

All of us must not forget that nature has its own ways of depopulating the imagined populated world without consultation, using all sorts of means that are far beyond human compensation.
