Annual General Meeting for the Franciscan Sisters of St. Anna
Sustainability and Self-Reliance of a Religious Institute;-
By Jecinter Okoth, FSSA June 01 2019-
The Franciscan sisters of St. Anna (FSSA) gathered for a two day long Annual General Meeting (AGM) in one of their organization at St. Anna Guest House, Kisumu. The AGM whose running theme was “Sustainability and Self- Reliance of a Religious Institute,” was successfully conducted by one of the members Sr. Consolata Aloo, FSSA.
During the meeting which took place from 1st to 2nd June 2019, the congregation’s objective was to discover how to jointly and individually respond to the call on prayer, apostolic and communal life with respect to remaining sustainable. It also aimed to discuss the existing reality of FSSA economic situation, its available opportunities and how to effectively explore these opportunities for the common good.
The speaker reminded the sisters that the available resources should be used economically, so that future generations who intend to join the congregation will continue to benefit. Quoting Pope Francis’ words she challenged the sisters probing, “What kind of a world do we want to leave to those who come after us?”
Focusing on the elements of sustainability in religious context, Sr. Consolata emphasized on Prayer life, Apostolate and Community living as the pillars that cement the continuity of religious life. She compared these elements to a traditional three stone fire explaining, “The three elements help to support each other in religious life and the absence of one leaves the community lame and flimsy.” Besides, she added, “Prayer draws us closer to God, availability of relevant apostolates according to the signs of time gives us opportunity to fulfil apostolic call and community life promotes mutual support, understanding, respect, security, and mental peace.”
Sr. Consolata summarized her presentation reminding the sisters of the various factors that contribute to a sustainable religious institute. These include; a sustainable
mission, having a participatory leadership structure, being accountable and integral in congregational activities, engagement of members and networking.

I’m amazed, I have to admit. Seldom do I encounter a blog
that’s both educative and engaging, and without a doubt, you’ve hit the nail
on the head. The problem is something not enough people are speaking intelligently about.
I’m very happy that I found this in my hunt for
something regarding this.
Long time reader, first time commenter — so, thought I’d drop a
comment.. — and at the same time ask for a favor.
Your wordpress site is very simplistic – hope you don’t
mind me asking what theme you’re using? (and don’t mind if I
steal it? :P)
I just launched my small businesses site –also built in wordpress like
yours– but the theme slows (!) the site down quite a
bit.
In case you have a minute, you can find it by searching for “royal cbd” on Google
(would appreciate any feedback)
Keep up the good work– and take care of yourself during
the coronavirus scare!

“royal cbd” on Google (would appreciate any feedback) – it’s still in the works.
