Lwak Girls Primary Celebrates win at the Regional Music Festivals

By Sr. Mechtilda Maureen Okello, FSSA-

This year’s regional music festivals took place at Nyansiongo Boys High School in Nyamira County from 1st to 2nd July 2019.  The occasion was attended by pupils from various schools within the region, teachers and stakeholders from the lake region such as Siaya, Kisumu, Nyamira, Homabay and Migori Counties. Lwak Girls Boarding Primary school was no exception.

The yearly event which takes place to identify the best teams that proceed to the National level, enables the pupils to showcase their talents in poetry, music and dances. Children of different age groups and from different schools presented energetic performances based on current topical themes.

Lwak Girls Boarding Primary presented English and Swahili verses, a choir set piece and a Scottish dance. With all the excitement and determination, they were prepared to take the trophy home. As the competition progressed, the tempo increased in various halls. There was stiff competition in the western cultural dance hall which hosted dances from European countries such as Scottish and German dances. It was tasking to bet on the winners as most teams performed excellently with various dancing styles.

When the two day event came to an end, Lwak Girls Boarding Primary managed to triumphantly acquire position two in an English verse and the Scottish dance, qualifying them for the national festivals, it was a great jubilation!

In her congratulatory message to the pupils, the new head teacher to the school Sr. Beatrice Vera encouraged the girls to work harder than before as they prepare for the National festivals. She further urged them to give the same commitment to their academic work.

The national music festivals is scheduled to take place in Kabarak University from 5th to 15th August. The Lwak Girls are determined to bring the trophies home and are eager to rehearse thoroughly to improve their performance. This will involve a lot of sacrifices and balancing of time.
